The 2019 varsity baseball season began with Don Moultrie stepping away from the Montgomery County varsity baseball team, and while he was certainly a beloved figure, the surgery he was forced to have during the 2018 campaign made him think it was time for someone else to lead this program.

That opened the door for current skipper Vince Wolk, who currently has the Wildcats executing at a level that has them playing as well as they have in quite some time. Never was this squads ability on display like it was on Wednesday in an Eastern Missouri Conference home game against Mark Twain that was moved up by a day because of expected bad weather when Montgomery County got on base early and often en-route to earning itself an 11-0 win.

The Wildcats had been scheduled to play an EMO game at Silex on Monday, but that contest was postponed because of field conditions.

Last weekend at the Four Rivers Tournament Montgomery County went 4-0. Victories included 7-2 over Pacific and 6-3 vs St. James.

The Wildcats, 5-0 overall, next play Palmyra and Southern Boone on April 6 at South Callaway in non-league action.
