The par-71 Kirksville Country Club is a popular spot many squads get to see during the regular season, including the Centralia varsity boys golf team, which had an event their on April 23, and while some people might say familiarity breeds contempt, the Panthers would probably describe it differently.

That's because success can change the mindset of an individual just as quickly as it can turn any other tide, so when this squad set foot on that course on Monday for Class 2, District 7, on Monday feeling like it could do anything, that was a wave of momentum any group would want to ride. When that breeze ended up blowing Centralia all the way to the district title with a score of 337, 11 strokes better than second-place Palmyra, not only was this squad sectionals-bound, but it was time to celebrate.

As for the rest of this field, slipping into the third slot was South Harrison at 361, Macon had a 370 and Clark County was well behind that mark with a 396 to take fifth. Next up was Highland at 408, Monroe City grabbed seventh with a 433 and Brookfield had a 435. That just left Carrolton in ninth with a 552.

One reason the Panthers dominated the way they did is that Tanner Brandow medaled for this event with a low-score of 76. Others like Highland's Dalton Klocke and South Harrison's Austin Lasher tried for that top spot, but with scores of 80 and 81, respectively, even fourth place Trace Forrest Brown of Macon had as much chance of catching the top spot as they did by coming in with an 82.

Tying for fifth place were Centralia's Nicholas Brooks and Macon's Grant Gabriel, both of which carded an 85, in seventh Palmyra's Brady Shively shot an 86 and deadlocking at 87 were the Panthers Noah Brooks, Monroe City's Evan Janes and South Harrison's Cole Taylor.

Advancing from this district will be the top two teams and the top 15 individuals not on those teams.

At sectionals at Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe it will be the top two teams and the top dozen individuals who are not members of those teams that will advance to the state meet at the par 72 Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.
