While almost every other local Class 2 varsity boys golf team was at home working on its short game or polishing its clubs, several players from the Missouri Military Academy were competing at the Missouri State High School Activities Association varsity golf championship meet earlier this week.

This included Gunner Stugart, who ended up finishing seventh by shooting an 81-81-162 at the par-72 Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield May 13-14 in a 91-man field. Leon Fernando Peralta also represented the Fighting Colonels at this event and finished tied for 39th with Highland's Dalton Klocke by carding a 90-89-179.

The only other area golfer to make his way into this field included Centralia's Noah Brooks in 58th place with a score of 94-95-189.

Medaling for this tourney was Cole Elling of St. Pius X at 70-76-146, Father Tolton's Christian Rischer was the runner-up with 78-70-148 and just barely getting edged into third was Whitfield's Drew Newlin with 75-74-149. Kal Sebastian Kolar of Maplewood-Richmond Heights was also just off that pace with a score of 74-76-150, in fifth Thomas Henson shot a 77-75-152 and Brayden Huffington finished at 77-79-156.

Team scores for this district began with St. Pius X winning with a 341-337-678 that Whitfield tried top top, but instead fell short of at 344-342-686. Father Tolton also had big dreams, only to end up third with 355-342-697, Eldon's hopes were dashed when they slipped and fell in at 361-344-705 and Palmyra did its best by charting a 360-355-715. The rest of the team scores included Kennett, 360-370-730, California 372-363-736 and Willow Springs was eighth with 391-398-789.
