Youth Basketball Skills Camp

From May-29-31 Mexico varsity basketball head coaches Darren Pappas and Ed Costley and current and former Bulldogs varsity basketball players will be hosting a youth skills clinic in the high school gym for kids entering third through eighth grade for $20.

Third through fifth graders will attend from 3:30-5:00 p.m., sixth through eighth graders then show up from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and anyone registered by May 20 gets a T-Shirt. Individuals will also have a chance to win prizes via daily contests, event is open to boys and girls and registration forms can be found at all elementary offices, middle school office, Mexico YMCA and elementary PE teachers.

Even though it was mentioned before all the athletes that finished top four would earn All-District Track and Field honors and advance to sectionals, one other individual for Centralia who'll be moving on after also earning that accolade last weekend was Duke Newsted.

Newsted completed the 3,200 in a personal-best time of 10:53.21. Sectionals will be at Montgomery County followed by the state meet in Jefferson City.

The Coyotes varsity track team is getting a send-off today from the high school to the Missouri State High School Activities Association track and field championships in Jefferson City starting at 1:05 p.m. down main street and around the court house according to the Paris R-II Facebook Page. All are welcome.

 

Athletic Boosters Fundraiser

There will be a Softball and Baseball Clinic that focuses on running the bases and the basics of hitting, fielding and throwing on May 18 for athletes in kindergarten- third grade from 9:00- 10:30 a.m. and fourth-eighth grade from 10:3a.m.-12:00 p.m. for $15 to raise funds for WMR1 FBLA Nationals.

Attendees need to bring, glove and bat if possible and instructors will include Wellsville-Middletown varsity coach Earl Burton and varsity players Ben Burton, Cameron Huff and Kollin McCoy.

Annual event back again

The 2019 Missouri vs Illinois High School All-Star Baseball Game will take place July 13 at at 7:00 p.m. in Hannibal at Clemens Field, 403 Warren Barrett Drive, 63401.

Player alumni can wear their All-Star jersey for free admission. The format is the top seniors from both states go head-to-head for nine innings. Illinois currently leads the series 4-2. Children five and under are free.
