The Mexico Area Family YMCA, 1127 Adams St., 65265, is offering a girls instructional volleyball league for individuals in third through sixth grade. Practice starts the week of Aug. 26, the focus will be to teach the fundamentals of the game and contests will take place Sundays nights for six weeks starting in Sept. and running into Oct. Fall sports practices for seventh and eighth grade students start on Aug. 19 for volleyball, softball and football from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. Cross country begins Aug. 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. and there will be a fall sports parents meeting on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. There will also be more information available during the initial days of school. Winners from the Anchor City Triathlon on Aug. 3 sponsored sponsored by Centralia Parks and Recreation included Dan Scholenberger in the male over 60 division, in the age 40-59 category the victors were Mark Wilson and Keri Jones and in the ages 39-21 division earning the top spots were Danielle Thurer and George Szabo.

The Montgomery County Wildcats Football program is asking all junior high and high school families be present on Aug. 11 in the high school gym when the club will be handing out gold cars, sharing team apparel store information and getting team concession stands nights organized. Cole County is hosting a Day at the Ballpark with the Springfield Cardinals on Aug. 10 at Hammons Field, 65802, from 6:10 p.m.- 9:10 p.m. Cost is $60 per person, which includes a game ticket, tailagte and a chartered bur, or, for $20 an individual can purchase just the ticket and the tailgate is free.
