A Harrisburg man arrested for driving while intoxicated was seriously injured early Sunday in a one-car accident in Howard County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Nicholas W. Austin, 20, was driving east in a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck on Howard County Road 408 just west of the Boone County line when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the road and overturned, the patrol reported. The crash report states Austin was driving too fast for conditions on the gravel road when the accident occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Austin was cited for driving while intoxicated with a prior offense, careless and imprudent driving, driving while his license is suspended, driving without insurance, being a minor who was visibly intoxicated and failing to wear a seat belt.

Austin was taken to University of Missouri Hospital for treatment.
