Dorothy Mae Magnus, 90, of Mexico, died Sunday, April 1, 2018 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital – Jefferson City.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will be served at the church at 12 Noon on Thursday.

Dorothy was born in Vandalia, MO on Jan. 17, 1928, the daughter of Frank Floyd and Lena Marguerite (Springman) Sparks. On Feb. 24, 1951, she married Elmer F. Magnus in Vandalia and he preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2007.

Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1951 and had worked as a bookkeeper at T & H Auto Supply.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Glen) Werner of Lebanon, MO, Steve Magnus and Susan of Mexico, and Don (Carol) Magnus of Mt. Vernon, IL; grandchildren, Kim (Corey) Ray of St. James, and Kristen Werner of Granite City, IL; great-grandchildren, Kyra and Corryn Ray, James and Christine Gentry; a brother, John Sparks of Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Susan Magnus; a brother Walter Sparks; and sisters, Catherine Woolridge and Joyce Middleton.

Memorials may be made to the King’s Daughters Home in care of Arnold Funeral Home.
