Ken West, 70, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, formerly of Mexico, passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Dekalb Medical at Hillandale in Lithonia, Georgia.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, at Arnold Funeral Home with Fr. Dylan Schrader officiating. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Ken was born March 14, 1948 in Mexico, the son of Leon and Vertna Pearl (Moore) West. On April 6, 1971, he married Alta Galbreath and she survives.

Mr. West graduated from Northeast state teachers college now known as Truman state University with his bachelors and Masters. He had been a Professor at Lincoln University and the University of Missouri-Columbia. Completed all course work for Ph D, Masters, BSN, BS, LPN, special education certificate  and an LE certificate. He authored several research projects in criminality behavior. At Lincoln he was over the panhellenic council for pledging fraternities in 1973 as well as department head for criminal justice and law enforcement at Lincoln. He was a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist. He was a member of Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Kirksville Missouri chapter, a very strong member of SCLC, as well as a member of NAACP local chapter and member of OFAM. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Alta West of Stone Mountain, Georgia; his children, Vertna Bradley, Kendra West, Ladonia West, and Lashonia Whitworth (Michael); three brothers, Charles West of Norfolk, Virginia, Ronald West of Columbia, Missouri, and Vincent West of Mexico, Missouri; two sisters, Esther Richardson of Mexico, and Sylvia of Arizona; four grandchildren, Aaliyah Shivers, Arreona Davis, Kayshawn Whitworth, and Makayla Whitworth; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronica Davis; his parents, Leon Bacon West Sr. and Vertna Pearl Moore West; three sisters, Wanda Jo Kennedy, Constance Brooks and Oneda; and four brothers; Bruce, Alexander "Zan", Raymond "Craig" and Leon "BB".
