Community R-VI girls came up against a more solid Quincy-Notre Dame program and were troubled to match up with their host that resulted in a 50-24 loss.
Quincy held the Lady Trojans to single digit scoring numbers for the first three quarters of play, leading 26-12 by halftime, and would outscore Community 10 to 2 in the third segment to carry on for the win.
“Quincy-Notre Dame is a very solid club with size in their senior class and freshman class. Abby Schreacke is a name we are going to hear a lot about over the next four years as she is super talented as a freshman,” Lady Trojans coach Bob Curtis said. “I thought we played very solid in the first half defensively. We just could not make shots as we missed 10 free throws. That killed any kind of momentum we were trying to find in the second quarter to get back in the game as they would foul us and we would miss two free throws, and this went down as a good defensive possession.”
Scoring for the Lady Trojans (2-1) were Natalie Thomas with 13 points, Dalaney Bowers had seven and four points were put in by Brianna Beamer.
Community girls and boys will participate in the 48-hour Norm Stewart Classic being held at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia facing Otterville in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 8. The boys game tips off at 4 a.m. and the girls contest follows.
On Dec. 13, both the Lady Trojans and Community boys teams will travel to play Slater.
