When Northeast R-IV School at Cairo hosted Community R-VI of Laddonia in a varsity make up double header Monday, both Central Activities Conference members were about to engage into their third game in four days and another such outing was going to take place 24 hours later.
The girls contest was a low scoring affair with Class 1 No. 1 state-ranked Community holding off Cairo winning 39-22.
The Lady Trojans held a slim 17-15 edge at halftime when they created some separation in the third quarter by outscoring their host 14 to 5 to carry out their task.
Natalie Thomas dropped in four 3-pointers to score 12 points, Alexa Welch added 11 and Delaney Bowers had six for Community girls (18-1, 6-0 CAC).
Top scorers for the Lady 'Cats (11-9, 3-2 CAC) were Shaylee Chrisman with seven points, while Gracie Brumley, Rileigh Eberhardt and Taegan Bartolacci all had four points.
In the boys game that followed, Bearcats coach Nic Zenker said senior Colby Hale dropped in five consecutive 3-pointers in the third quarter to help Cairo ( 18-2, 4-1 CAC) knock off the Trojans (4-14, 1-5 CAC) winning 78-42.
The Trojan teams march Tuesday to play at Sturgeon, and come Friday Community plays host to Glasgow.
