10-year sentence for suspect in Audrain killing

A Warren County judge overseeing a manslaughter case from Audrain County has sentenced the suspect to 10 years in prison.

Dekhise E. Dorsey, 19, of Mexico, was sentenced last week after pleading guilty Sept. 9 to first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Dorsey was charged in the February 2019 shooting death of Ta’Juan Williams, 27, in Mexico. The case was transferred to Warren County Circuit Court in June 2019.

Associate Judge Michael Wright oversaw Dorsey’s case after it was moved to Warren County. He delivered the sentence on Dec. 11. Dorsey will receive credit for the nearly two years he’s already spent in jail.

Dorsey was originally charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, before pleading guilty to the reduced charge.

According to an arrest report from the Mexico Public Safety Department, Dorsey told police that he and two other teens got into a fight with Ta’Juan Williams at a child’s birthday party on Feb. 1, 2019.

Dorsey reportedly stated that one of the teens accidentally shot Williams. The three suspects turned themselves in to police the next day.

The other teens charged in the killing, both of whom are minors, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in August.
