Anthony Shivers scored four times. Michael White rushed for 118 yards and the clock was allowed to run in the second half as Mexico overwhelmed visiting Orchard Farm 42-6 on Friday.

It took the Bulldogs only three plays from scrimmage to score. It was a gift from the Eagles, who traveled backward from the start.

A high snap on first and ten took Orchard Farm from the 18 to their own 1 yard line. They were still in a deep hole on third when another snap sailed beyond reach, this time bounding out of the end zone for a Mexico safety.

The Bulldogs’ offense needed only three plays when their turn came. Shivers scooted around the left, bounced off a would-be tackler, found an alley and raced 33 yards for his first touchdown to make it 9-0 with barely two minutes and 30 seconds elapsed.

A rare moment of drama came in the ensuing possession. Eagles backs couldn’t Connor Johnson and Jaden Hatfield on first down. On second from the Orchard Park 23, another wild delivery from center caused a scramble.

Caleb Prater outraced two Eagles and pounced on the ball.

“I didn’t even know what I did,” Prater said. “It was a big rush.”

Mexico failed to capitalize, but that only delayed the inevitable – although Orchard Farms’ variation on the single wing attack began to gain traction.

The visitors moved the ball to Mexico’s 23. But on consecutive plays Morgan Grubb, Kendyr Taylor with the aid of White and finally Hatfield kept the Eagles out of the red zone.

“We have a pretty good team,” Taylor pointed out. “We adjusted.”

Orchard Farms would accumulate only 64 yards from scrimmage on the night. The majority of that came on a late score by Maurion Moore, who carried 51 yards for a touchdown with 3:20 on the running clock to deny Mexico a shutout.

The Bulldogs offense was clicking throughout the night. Quarterback Ty Sims leaned on Andrew Runge to put them in range before Shivers tacked on his second TD to make it 16-0.

A nine play drive that went 62 yards provided the next score. White forced his way through a wall of white jerseys to reach paydirt from six yards out.

Just before the half, Shivers and then White crossed the goal line again. It was 36-0 at the break.

“We just put the pressure on them,” said Ryder Staddie, referring to both sides of the ball.

White carried 7 times for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns. Shivers racked up 84 yards on the ground with three scores. Runge accounted for 64 yards, with Sims keeping for 38, Hatfield gathering 31 and William Dobyns 11.

Prater ran twice for 5 yards.

Sims dropped back just once, but it paid off. He found Shivers for a 44 yard touchdown strike that gave the running back four touchdowns.

The pass capped Mexico’s scoring on the night and ensured the team’s first 3-0 start since 2016.
