The Community R-6 Trojans defeated the No. 6-ranked team in Class 1 last Tuesday 2-0, putting the perfect cap on the Trojans’ Senior Night. Mason Carroll threw a complete game shutout, striking out 10 and walking 1.
Carroll also drove in both of the Trojans’ runs with a single in the third and a solo home run in the fifth.
“Overall, we made plays defensively when we needed to,” said Trojans coach Joel Krato, “and put together some hits that will hopefully carry into the playoffs.”
Krato was also happy with a win that came as the team honored its seniors.
“I am glad we were able to send our seniors out on Senior Night in a game like that,” he said.
Monday night, the No. 2 Trojans fell 2-0 to No. 3 Higbee in the Class 1 District 12 Tournament in Glasgow. They finish the season at 7-6. Higbee moved on to play No. 1 seed Cairo Tuesday (results not available at press time).
