Community pounds Madison, struggles at Paris Tourney

Posted

The middle of the order hit .467, scored five runs and drove in six to help Community R-6 to a 12-3 win at Madison on Thursday.

Olivia Kuda, Alexis Welch and Brooklynn Glasgow – three, four and five in the potent Trojans lineup – harried Madison pitching all evening. But it was Ivy Hays who got things started with a two-run double in the first, part of a four-run first.

Community put the game out of reach in the second. Shelby Clark beat out an infield hit. Sarah Angel slapped a single to center. With one down Kuda also knocked a base hit to center, scoring both Clark and Angel.

Kuda raced home on a Madison error. Glasgow ripped a double, also to center – the Trojans favorite target – bringing Welch across.

When courtesy runner Kylie Brooks scampered home on another error, Community had completed a five run inning and were up 9-0.

Pitcher Paige Painter didn’t need so much help. She gave up just 3 hits and fanned 8 to earn the win.

Welch was 3 for 5 with 3 runs. Kuda and Glasgow both had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Kuda added 2 runs. The middle of the order provided the knockout punch. The rest of the order, however, hit Madison with plenty of body blows.

Angel went 2 for 5 with 2 runs. Clark was 2 for 3. Hays drove in 2.

Paris Tournament

The Trojans were rude guests at Paris on Saturday, handing the tournament hosts a 15-5 loss.

Community recorded 9 hits, but benefitted from six Paris errors to pick up the four inning victory. Olivia Kuda and Brooklynn Glasgow accounted for two hits each. Kuda drove in four, while Glasgow plated two.

Paige Painter got the win.

In the day’s other two contests, the Trojans fell behind early against North Shelby and could not climb back into contention, losing 13-6.

Sarah Angel went 4 for 5 with a couple of doubles and 2 RBIs. Shelby Clark was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Glasgow and Rylee Rafferty had 2 hits each.

Salisbury knocked off the Trojans 13-1. Lydia Forbis scored the lone run while Olivia Schafer collected 2 hits.
