The postseason accolades weren’t finished for a select few of area basketball players and coaches.

The Community R-6 Lady Trojans had a couple of their program pillars honored with Class 1 District 10 selections in seniors Sarah Angel and Olivia Kuda, had Angel selected as the district player of the year and Bob Curtis chosen as the district coach of the year after leading the team to its eighth district title in 10 years. The Van-Far boys were represented on the Class 2 District 5 team by junior Nikos Connaway, who was chosen as the player of the year. Along with the North Callaway boys’ three district players of Matthew Weber, Isiah Craighead and Sam Pezold, Matt Miller was named the Class 3 District 7 coach of the year after the team’s first district title since 1999.

As for the Community boys, senior Gavin Allen and junior Mason Carroll followed up their all-Central Activities Conference basketball selections with all-district nods in Class 1 District 10, giving them recognition before they each step on the baseball diamond this spring. The Van-Far girls had senior Mara Jensen as its lone representative on the Class 2 District 5 team, and the North Callaway girls had Natalie Shryock and Riley Blevins as Class 3 District 7 players.

Angel and Kuda were already named all-conference players after Angel joined the 1,000-point club and led the team with averages of 15.1 points,4.4 assists and five steals while Kuda led the team with an average of 8.6 rebounds along with 10.5 points per game.

Connaway was also an all-conference player — in the Eastern Missouri Conference — and a new member of the 1,000-point club, like Angel this season. His team-high averages of 19.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.2 steals.
