David Earl Potts passed away on May 20, 2023 at the age of 80 after his long battle with cancer.

David was born on August 17, 1942 in Fulton, Mo to Earl M. Potts and Stella Mae Potts. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Columbia; two sons, Michael Earl Potts (Janelle) of Rogers, AR and Gregory Owen Potts (Helen) of Washington, Ill; four grandchildren, Ethan, Tobin, Renee, and Bryan; and one brother, Thomas Lamar Potts (Dora) of Fulton.

After graduating from Fulton High School in 1960, David attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla and then transferred to the University of Missouri Columbia campus. David married Janet Ann Nichols on July 16, 1967. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, he worked a fulfilling career at A.P. Green Refractories in Mexico for 32 years in the research department. David will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who spent his life ensuring his family was taken care of.

David had a special love for fishing and enjoyed spending as much time as possible in the water trying to hook a rainbow trout or bass. He loved fly fishing and devoted many nights to tying his own flies, reading various articles about fishing, and planning his next fishing trip. He also enjoyed barbequing, woodworking, listening to all types of music and his short wave radios, and increasing his knowledge about investing. He was also a fan of watching Mizzou sports, Cardinals baseball, or any NFL game.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to First Christian Church of Mexico, Mo. or Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia, Mo. Online condolences may be given at www.arnoldfh.com
