Evelyn Frances Benney Pool, 91, of Montgomery City, died on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at the St. Andrews at New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence.

Evelyn Frances Benney Pool was born Feb. 20, 1930, in New Florence, to Howard Benney and Madeline A. Long Benney. She graduated from Montgomery City High School in 1947. Mrs. Pool married Wayne L. Pool at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, on June 6, 1950, he preceded her in death on May 5, 2014. To this union two children were born, Judy Kay and Gary Wayne. 

Mrs. Pool lived in the Montgomery County area all her life. She was a very active member of the Immaculate Conception Church and community activities, having served as president of the Council of Catholic Women and Montgomery Jaycee Wives, and an Extension Club Member, as well as a 4-H Leader. Mrs. Pool was instrumental in organizing the first United Way for the Montgomery Area and served as their first president. She also helped organize United Way in other communities including Mexico. She was formerly employed as a secretary at Farmers and Laborers Insurance for over 30 years and Wyatt’s Electric in Montgomery City. Evelyn and Wayne were owners of Wayne Pool Trucking and Pool Farms. She was a recipient of the Col. C. H. Stribling Award for Community Service. Evelyn was an avid quilter, bridge player, and enjoyed going to the senior center and eating out. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. 

Mrs. Pool is survived by her daughter, Judy Trower and husband, Jerry, of Palmyra; and son, Gary Pool and wife, Angela, of Hazelwood. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jonna McClard, husband, Zane, and Joelle Vanpool, all of Cape Girardeau, Anastasia Crenshaw of Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Gabriella Crenshaw of Hazelwood; great-grandchildren: Harper and Beckett McClard, Sawyer and Charlie Vanpool, all of Cape Girardeau; nephews, Dennis Benney and wife, Jean, and Tom Benney and wife, Kaye, all of Montgomery City; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.

Mrs. Pool was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne L. Pool; and brother, Donald Benney and wife, Claire Farnen Benney.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City.  The Rev. Philip Kane will officiate and interment of ashes will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Montgomery City. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, at 5 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City. 

Her honorary casket bearers are her bridge club which include Marge Miller, Peggy Readey, Marolyn Block, Sue Sherer and Betty River.
