Groundhog Day prediction released

The legendary Punxsutawney Phil woke up on Thursday morning, and saw his shadow, calling for six more weeks of winter.

Every year on Feb. 2, on Groundhog Day, the members of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club visit Gobbler's Knob, Phil's home. The group waits for Phil to leave his burrow and, as the legend goes, if he see his shadow, we get six more weeks of winter. If he does not, then it's an early spring.

According to a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Phil predictions have been right 40% of the time over the past 10 years. The official end to Winter is on March 20.

The Climate Prediction Center has released the three-month outlook for February through April 2023 which calls for above normal temperatures across the eastern and southern United States and below temperatures for the northwestern US.
