The Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico is helping celebrate the holiday season with their “Honor Our Heroes” Christmas tree.
Standing about six-feet tall, the tree is decorated with American flags, patriotic colors and is wreathed with military boots, courtesy of the Missouri Military Academy. Veterans Home employees Brooke Broughton and Jessica Wages decorated the tree.
“We just wanted to bring a little more joy,” said Broughton.
The Veterans Home has been in lockdown due to COVID-19. In a typical year, the home boasts a nine-foot-tall tree. Next year, it is hoped the tall tree will return, with a similar patriotic theme.
“We love our guys,” said Broughton. “It’s the least we can do.”
The Missouri Veterans Home is a 150-bed facility. Christmas cards, New Year’s cards and any correspondence are welcome, and can be sent to: Missouri Veterans Home, 1 Veterans Dr, Mexico, MO 65265.
