Mexico High School principal Brad Ellebracht sent out a letter to parents and guardians in the district informing about an incident at the Mexico High School campus on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
According to the letter from Mr. Ellebracht, after school, a family member of a student came onto the campus to pick up their student. This individual, who is registered to open-carry a firearm, was seen on campus with a firearm and this was reported to Mexico Public Safety. Officers made contact with the individual, who reported that he had forgotten to take the gun off and leave it off campus.
At no time was anyone on campus in any danger. However, it is important to remember that our board policy does not allow individuals to carry any sort of weapon on Mexico Public Schools property.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We appreciate the quick and open response from Mexico Public Safety in regard to this matter.
