LaUna M. Whittaker, 99, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Zane Whorton conducting the service. All attending are required to wear a mask.

Mrs. Whittaker was born on Nov. 30, 1921 in Callaway County at the family home, the daughter of Charles and Marylee (Peery) Boswell. On July 7, 1937, in Fulton, she married Glenwood “Glenn” Whittaker.

LaUna was an excellent cook. She loved to share this talent while entertaining the family. Spending time with her grandchildren, at the fishing camp on the Salt River, fishing were special moments. LaUna attended Mexico High School. She worked in the office at Florsheim Shoe Factory and volunteered at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Mexico.

Survivors include one son, Ron (Connie) Whittaker of Mexico; one daughter, Kay (Harlan) Stahmer of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren; Darren (Jill) Whittaker of Omaha, Neb., Ricky Whittaker of Columbia, Brian (Tammy) Willingham of Oxford, Iowa and Jane (Kevin) Menke of Winona, Minn.; one granddaughter-in-law, Rachel Whittaker of Blue Springs, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Whittaker was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marylee Boswell; her husband, Glenn Whittaker; three sisters, Ruth Erdel, Darlene Hill and Jean Boyd; three brothers, Frank Boswell, Charles “Dub” Boswell and Lee Boswell; two grandchildren, Kent Whittaker and Teri Campbell.

The family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society or First Christian Church of Mexico. Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
