Strong outing in loss to Palmyra

At the beginning of the season, Mexico's tennis players set a goal of topping the powerful Palmyra squad. They made it close on Tuesday, but fell short by a score of 7-2 at the Fairground Park Netplex.

"Palmyra always has a strong team," observed Mexico head coach Kim Costley. "While we lost, we played them competitively."

Shelby Kennemore continued a fine season, fending off Kaitlyn Rindom 8-5 in the number one singles match. Lily Yager almost turned things to the Bulldogs advantage against Molly Gottman. The two battled to an 8-8 draw in regulation before Gottman pulled away in the tiebreaker.

Mexico's other win came in doubles. Jocelyn Garcia and Estrella Lopez knocked off Abby Marin and Jeorgia O'Brien 8-2.

"Estrella and Jocelyn have a great connection and compete with anyone in doubles," Costley said.

Both Garcia and Lopez played close in singles. Garcia was edged out 8-6 while Lopez remained in striking distance before losing 8-4.

Winona Whelan and Katie Gooch both battled but fell short at 8-2 in singles play.

Mexico looked strong in doubles, as well. In matches closer than the final outcomes would attest, Kennemore and Yager were outdistanced 8-2. Gooch and Whelan went down 8-3.
