Teachers receive Webber Excellence in Teaching awards

Posted

Larry Webber, Justin Webber and Brendan Webber of The Webber Family of Pharmacies and Gina Raines, president of the Commerce Bank in Mexico recently made the rounds in the Mexico School District to recognize teachers. The four presented five Mexico Public School District teachers with the Laurann Webber Excellence in Teaching Award. Stops included Mexico Middle School, Eugene Field, McMillan, Hawthorne, and Mexico High School.

Recipients are Janet Tate, McMillan; Haley Schafer, Eugene Field; Jessica Brown, Hawthorne; Ann Runge, Mexico Middle School; and Michelle Yount, Mexico High School. Teachers were presented $2,000 checks by the Webbers and Raines in memory of the late Laurann Webber. The Webber Family of Pharmacies gave $1,000 and the Commerce Bank in Mexico added $500 for a total of $1,500, given to each honoree.

Selections are made by Raines, Brendan Webber and three retired teachers; this is the fourth year the award has been presented.

“It’s just a way to give back to the community,” said Larry Webber.

It’s also a way of recognizing teachers, Webber noted, adding that their good works often go unnoticed.
