The Community R-6 Trojans continued their winning ways last week with an 8-3 win over Clopton April 12.
Mason Carroll started on the mound and went 5 2/3 innings. Carroll struck out 10 and walked 2.
“Mason again filled up the strike zone throwing 73 percent strikes,” said coach Joel Krato.
Gavin Allen came in for the last four outs and shut the door.
“These two kids - Gavin and Mason - are kids that have worked exceptionally hard in the offseason and their efforts have been rewarded in their success on the mound,” Krato said.
Offensively, the Trojans had one of their better nights at the plate.
“We hit the ball hard all night,” Krato said. “Clopton made some really good plays defensively and chased down some balls in the outfield.”
Kaden Brooks went 2-for-4. Chase Dobyns went 2-for-3.
Overall, the Trojans had eight hits and were able to get the big hit when they needed it or were able to manufacture runs with small ball when needed.
With the win, the Trojans were 5-0 for the first time since 1996.
Monday, they fell 12-0 at New Franklin for their first loss of the season.
They were slated to play at Louisiana Tuesday (results not available at press time) and head to Silex Saturday for an 11 a.m. game time.
