Trojans take second in New Franklin Tournament

The Trojans finished second in the New Franklin Tournament on Saturday, clobbering Crocker and Westran before falling to Fayette in the title round.

Community's bats, which had been on full charge all morning, lost their power as Fayette no hit the Trojans in a 12-0 shutout. Only Sarah Angel and Kylie Brooks reached base in the game.

“In the Championship game we faced a really solid Fayette team,” said head coach Kody Asquith. “Even with the loss, I am very proud of the performance that these girls came out and played with today.”

Against Westran things were dicey until the fourth. Knotted at 4-4, Community broke the game open with two in the top half of the inning -- a rally that began with an RBI single by Alexis Welch.

The Trojans exploded for 5 more in the fifth to seal an 11-4 triumph.

Welch went 4 for 4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Ivy Hays was 3 for 4 at the plate. Angel had 2 hits while Rylee Rafferty and Brooklyn Glasgow were solid in the clutch. Rafferty drove in 3 runs and Glasgow 2.

Shelby Clark went the distance in the circle, allowing just 3 earned runs.

In the opener, Paige Painter held Crocker in check, tossing a one hit shutout as the Trojans cruised 14-0.

Olivia Kuda knocked in 4 runs, going 2 for 4 with a homer in fourth.

Rafferty, Welch and Painter also contributed 2 hits each.

Silex downs Community

The Trojans traveled to Silex on Sept. 9. The team tends to run hot or cold at the plate, and on this afternoon there was a chill in the batter's box. Silex took a 15-3 win.

Community managed just 5 hits, but they were well-timed. The middle of the order -- Kuda, Welch and Glasgow -- each had hits. Welch, Glasgow and sixth hitter Kayla Jett drove in runs.
