Mexico baseball hadn't lost a game since March 29 in Kirksville.

The Bulldogs lost to North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville again 8-5 at home on Thursday but not before winning eight straight games. After allowing a four-run sixth inning, the Tigers built too insurmountable of a lead.

After failing to turn a 5-3 double play in the fourth inning, Kirksville (9-7, 3-6 NCMC) allowed two Mexico runs to score off a couple of errors, and the Bulldogs (12-7, 3-3 NCMC) trailed 3-2. Brady Fox pitched five innings with four hits, three runs, three strikeouts and three walks for Mexico but threw 86 pitches and contended with a 30-minute lightning delay on the rainy and chilly evening. Drew DeMint had four earned runs, three hits, two walks and a strikeouts in two innings.

In the sixth, Cole Kelly came up with a two-RBI single, but Kirksville also plated two runs on fielder's choice plays and added another such run in the seventh inning. Two runs scored for Mexico in the seventh, but two runners were also stranded.

For Mexico, Ashton Belcher went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two walks, Sam Ryan walked four times, Kaden Benne had a RBI, and DeMint finished 2-for-3. For Kirksville, Jace Kent finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored, Carter Pinkerton had three RBI, and Cole Kelly and Jack Thomas each had two RBI.

Mexico plays at conference foe Moberly (11-4, 2-2 NCMC) at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
