Bulldogs beat Eldon 6-5 in extra innings at home

The Mexico Bulldogs didn't let the early deficit and cold bother them on Friday. Eldon took a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings, but Mexico gradually battled back at home to win 6-5 in eight innings.

Sam Ryan, who finished 2-for-5, hit a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and no outs to bring home the game-winning run to walk off the Mustangs. It is the second straight year Mexico (3-3) defeated Eldon (3-3) in Mexico by one run in cold and rainy conditions as the Bulldogs won 7-6 a year ago.

Mexico only struck out once while Eldon pitchers walked 11 batters, giving Mexico a shot to put the ball in play. The Bulldogs hit four ground balls and a sacrifice fly that turned into two runs in the third inning, one run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to force extra innings.

Tyson Carr went 2-for-4 with a RBI, Cooper Bledsoe had two RBI, Brady Fox scored two runs and had a RBI, and Austin Maxwell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Landon Hilderman pitched five innings with five walks, two earned runs, two hits and two strikeouts. Zachary Jahn and Cooper Rowe combined for three hitless and shutout innings.

Mexico plays two on Saturday at Southern Boone in Ashland, facing Hermann (1-2) at 1:30 p.m. and then Southern Boone (4-0) at 4 p.m.
