After a flurry of activity last week things have slowed down a little bit at the city clerk and Mexico Public School’s offices for candidate filings.
There’s only one new filing to report since last week’s filings for Mexico City Council. Incumbent Vicki Briggs, who is currently serving as mayor, filed for re-election on the first day. The other incumbent, Chris Miller, has also refiled to seek re-election. Miller has also served as mayor.
Mexico Public Schools has three openings on its seven-member Board of Education (BOE). Board President Keith Louder’s term is up in April and so far he has not said anything publicly about whether or not he’ll run again. BOE Treasurer Michelle Stephens’ term also comes to an end in April. Stephens has already filed for re-election. She was appointed to the seat this past summer to fill a vacant seat. Both seats are three-year terms. Jennifer Gore, who ran in last year’s election, has filed for a three-year term.
The third seat, occupied currently by BOE member Lennette Brown, is also up for election. Brown was also appointed this summer to finish the term of former BOE member Todd Yager. Yager won election in 2023 and had two years remaining on the term. The winner of that election will serve a two-year term. Brown has already filed for re-election.
