Centralia’s Brinkmann named district coach of year, Lady Panthers each earn all-district selections

Megan Brinkmann has succeeded in her previous stops and led the Lady Panthers to history this season.

In her first year with Centralia, Brinkmann was named the Class 4 District 8 tournament coach of the year, and seniors Jozelynn Bostick and Annie Robinson and freshman Braylin Brunkhorst each gained all-district nods.

The Lady Panthers finished 24-4 and took second in the district tournament after a 43-41 loss to Moberly. It is the first time since 2012 that a Centralia girls team even earned the right to play for a district title. Prior to this season, Brinkmann had won three district titles with Eugene and one with Bowling Green.

Bostick averaged 9 points, 4.9 rebounds and three assists per game and was at the center of the Centralia offense as its man ball handler. Oftentimes, the Lady Panthers’ willingness to spread the ball around benefitting the seasons of others including Brunkhorst, who averaged 11 points off the bench and then in the starting lineup after reigning all-conference player Morgan Ross tore her ACL. Robinson was one of the pillars in the post by averaging 7.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Each Lady Panther also made the all-Clarence Cannon Conference team, and Bostick and Brunkhorst were recently named to the Central Media all-district team.

Mexico’s strong tandem of Shelton, Long named to all-district team

Jordan Shelton and DJ Long each had the capability to take over a game this season.

Even if they didn’t end up as the leading scorer, they each left their imprint on games because of Long’s vision as a point guard and Shelton’s explosiveness when driving into the lane. That is why the senior Shelton and junior Long each made the Class 4 District 8 team.

For Shelton, he firmly established himself as the Bulldogs’ second leading scorer at 16.9 points per game but also was a well-established leader. He also averaged 2.9 steals and 2.5 assists and made 24 3-pointers.

Long was the team’s leading scorer at 18.3 points but also regularly involved his teammates at 4.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds. He had already earned all-North Central Missouri Conference honors with Shelton but also became a 1,000-point scorer near the end of the regular season.
