Jozelynn Bostick was again a multi-event winner on Thursday in the Centralia track meet in the Palmyra Panther Open.

Her 1,600- and 3,200-meter run times turned more heads as Bostick set a new school record in the 3200, breaking the old one set by her sister, Madeline Bostick, in 2017 by eight seconds and was better than her own 1600 record by two seconds. Jozelynn Bostick posted a 3200 time of 11:42.21 and a 1600 mark of 5:21.79 to win two of 12 events for Centralia.

She also was part of the 4x800 relay victory along with Kenedee Moss, Rebecca Erisman and Rylee Palmer. Among the other girls winners were Shelby Lewis in the 200- and 400-meter dash, Ellie Berendzen in the discus, and 4x200 relay team of Harper Sontheimer, Autumn Hawkins, Kaelyn Walters and Lewis and 4x400 relay team of Olivia Adams, Erisman, Sontheimer and Lewis.

Finishing second were Sontheimer in the 300-meter hurdles and Hawkins in the long jump and taking third was Sontheimer in the 100 hurdles.

JR Lesher led the Centralia boys winners with victories in the 1600 and 3200, Cayden Dunn won the 300 hurdles while taking second in the 110 hurdles, and Evan Brumback won the javelin.

Finishing second were Rohan Holiman in the 800-meter run and the 4x800 relay team of Landon Moss, Dryst Bostick, Holiman and Lesher, and taking third were Bostick in the 3200, Jacob Beard in the pole vault and Payton Mabrey in the shot put.

Panthers' bunch of hits late to defeat South Shelby 1-0 in extras

Centralia had two hits heading into extra innings on Thursday.

The Panthers Clarence Cannon Conference home game against South Shelby was still scoreless heading into the eighth inning as Ethan Adams pitched an economical eight innings, with 85 pitches, as he struck out seven, allowed three hits and walked one. Jack Romine drove in the winning run on the third Centralia hit of the eighth inning.

Centralia (3-4, 1-1 CCC) did have a baserunner in four of the first seven innings, with Romine finishing 3-for-4 on the day.

Mason Presley and Tanner Dutton joined him in the hit column in the eighth inning, which led to Presley scoring the game-winning run.

South Shelby (6-2, 0-1 CCC) had two runners on in the top of the eighth inning, but Adams was able to pitch around an error and struck out opposing pitcher Lucas Magruder — 7⅓ innings with eight strikeouts, five hits, one run and one walk — to end the threat.

Centralia hosted Macon (7-2, 1-0 CCC) on Tuesday before playing at Mexico (4-7) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Golf defeats Palmyra in match

Centralia picked up a Clarence Cannon Conference victory early this season.

The Panthers edged Palmyra in a road match by shooting a 170 compared to a 172, thanks to the medalist efforts by Cullen Bennett and Travis Brooks, who each finished with a 39.

Carter Moss followed with a 43 for Centralia, Tyler Hawkins had a 49 and Josh Bowne shot a 53.

Palmyra’s Jonas Janes was the match runner-up with a score of 40.
