Chamber cuts ribbon on new boutique

She’s already been in business for six months online but the Mexico storefront is now a reality for the Broken Cactus owner Sadie Miller.

Miller with the help of the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon at her new store which is located on the Mexico Square next to Merle Norman. The store currently has evening hours of 4 to 7:30 p.m.

“Our hope is to kind of catch those people who have to work during the day and stay open a little bit later so they can shop too,” Miller said.

The store features women’s and children’s clothing but has some men’s accessories. Miller said the idea for the name came out of nowhere one day while she was thinking about it.

“I have always been obsessed with cactus but I just kind of came up with Broken Cactus and it stuck,” Miller said. “There’s not really any significance to it, it just stuck one day.”

Miller has one employee, Lani Barnett, and hopes to add more employees. Miller still works a full-time job while operating the store.

“I’m hoping to get some employees to work during the day,” Miller said. “We just haven’t gotten there yet.”
