Chamber hosts lunch and learn for youth apprenticeship program

Posted

If you’re a local business owner wanting to help boost the local economic workforce through youth development then listen up.

The Mexico Chamber of Commerce along with Tyronn Lue’s C2C Organization and Mexico Public Schools will host a lunch and learn Monday, Dec. 18, at the Chamber office on the Mexico Square. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with introductions followed by a presentation, “Why You Are Here.”

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 lunch will be served where topics such as network, needs of community vision, and vision of the program will be discussed. The project started with a community needs assessment by Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) and the Building Strong Communities Initiative and has continued through discussion by CMCA’s Community Voices sponsorship.

“We are motivated and driven to take the next step to solidify our community’s next generation of workforce,” the announcement says.

The lunch and learning goal will be to move forward with an opportunity to focus on the Registered Youth Apprenticeships (RYA) program. This program will work in conjunction with the school’s Workforce Development Model to meet the community’s needs.

“We are at an exciting time in education,” the announcement says. “Now more than ever there are options and resources available to create bridges and support for students graduating from high school to find post-high school success.”

Following lunch there will be a discussion about the RYA program and what’s ahead. At around 1 p.m. the program will wrap up with questions.
