In honor of Mexico native and head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, Tyronn Lue, the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for the sixth annual Community Day of Service Friday, Oct. 7. Businesses, churches, and organizations are asked to register events with the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce to ensure they are documented for Coach Lue.
In 2021, about 20 organizations, as well as all Mexico Public School students pre-K – eighth grade, St. Brendan and the Missouri Military Academy participated. Additionally, Mexico High School students incorporated community service initiatives into homecoming week celebrations. Projects ranged from special one-day projects, kicking off annual campaigns, collection drives, as well as community beautification.
“Tyronn Lue Community Day of Service is such a fun day for the Mexico community,” said chamber board president, Melanie Utterback. “It is a great way to continue showig our support for Ty Lue and all he continues to do for our community.”
The chamber’s executive director, Dana Keller agrees. “On the biggest days of his life, Coach Lue always remembers where he came from and never forgets to remind the world of it,” Keller said. “After his shout out the evening of the NBA championship in 2016, Mexico, Missouri, was trending on both Twitter and Facebook. You can’t buy that kind of attention! Coach Lue’s love for our community is evident in everything he does.”
To highlight and document Community Day of Service activities, the Chamber encourages community members to share pictures and commentary on the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.lFor more information or to register an event, please contact the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce at 573.581.2765 or mexicochamber@mexico-chamber.org.
