Success has accompanied the Community R-6 girls program for a while.
Much of that success can be explained by the players they have been able to run out on the floor as the Lady Trojans finished their sixth straight 20-win season, won their eighth district title in 10 years and finished ranked 10th in Class 1. Three of the four all-Central Activities Conference players this season are seniors — Sarah Angel, Olivia Kuda and Kayla Jett — who were on three of those district title teams and junior Kylie Brooks was also named all-conference.
Angel has a stacked resume as she is a multiple time all-conference and all-district player who is the latest member of the Lady Trojan 1,000-point club. As the team’s point guard, she earned a first-team selection for averaging 15.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, five steals 69 percent on free throws.
Kuda was one of Community’s post threats who was also named first-team all-CAC to follow her selection last season. She averaged 10.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and was a 63 percent free-throw shooter.
As an honorable mention, Jett was an all-conference player for the first time after averaging 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and was a 60 percent free-throw shooter.
“This group of seniors will be missed a lot as they came to work everyday and played for the name on the front of the jersey,” head coach Bob Curtis said.
Brooks made it on the team for the first time and as an honorable mention after averaging 6.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 steals.
“They improved throughout the season and won a lot of close games that could have changed our season dramatically,” Curtis said.
