Community R-6 sweeps triangular to stay undefeated

Community R-6 softball is maintaining its best start in more than 15 years as the Lady Trojans are 5-0 following Saturday victories against Clopton and Marceline. On their home field, the Lady Trojans defeated Clopton 6-0 and then two-time reigning Class 2 state champion Marceline 16-6 in five innings.

In the Clopton victory, Paige Painter struck out four, allowed three hits and induced 13 groundouts in seven innings and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate. Brooklynn Glasgow went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Against Marceline, Community scored eight runs in the third inning and were boosted by the 6-for-14 and five RBI from Nos. 6 through 9 in the order, including Alyssa Beamer, Taylor Johnson, Peyton Schafer and Chloe Johnson. Jocelyn Curtis struck out six and allowed three walks and one earned run in five innings in the circle and drove in two runs at the plate.
