CR6 ROUNDUP: Community R-6 erases bad start vs district foe Van-Far

It wasn’t the way Community R-6 wanted to start Thursday night.

After surrendering a three-RBI home run to Van-Far’s Dalana Gay, the Lady Trojans rallied with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win 7-3 against the district oppoenent. Community had three hits through four innings against Gay in the circle but had two crucial RBI hits from Jocelyn Curtis to give her three RBI on the day.

Curtis tied the game on a two-run double in the fourth inning prior to adding on in the fifth inning with a single to make it 5-3. Paige Painter brought home the winning run in the inning on a single along with allowing five hits and two earned runs in seven innings while striking out seven. Olivia Kuda finished 3-for-3, scoring two runs.

Van-Far put two runners on in the first inning thanks to an error and a walk but didn’t threaten to score as much as a bases-loaded situation in the seventh inning. Mara Jensen doubled and two batters walked prior to the final two Lady Indians striking out.

Community (9-10) plays in a Round Robin tournament today in Louisiana against the host Lady Bulldogs, Mark Twain and Class 2 No. 5 Elsberry.

Trojans unable to stop undefeated New Franklin, loses 7-0

New Franklin’s pitching kept them rolling through the fall season.

Community R-6 was its next obstacle Tuesday as the Trojans were shut out 7-0 despite being outhit 3-2. Mason Carroll didn’t allow an earned run in his six innings with nine strikeouts, but Community’s seven errors gave New Franklin the perfect complement to its 12 strikeouts on the mound.

Andrew Rhorer and Connor Wilmsmeyer only walked three and hit one batter collectively in Community’s first time being shut out this fall season. Gavin Allen and Ean Johnson had the only two hits for the Trojans.

Wilmsmeyer hit a fly ball that was recorded as an error as it allowed him to circle the bases on a Little League home run in the second inning. Community (2-3) had its first runner reach second base in the third inning after Allen was hit by a pitch only the inning to end when Shane Woodson was thrown out trying to score on Johnson’s single.

Community didn’t have another scoring opportunity as good as that while New Franklin (12-0) capitalized on three errors in the bottom of the third inning to make it 4-0. An outfield error scored three runs with two outs in the fourth inning.
