Posted

Jocelyn Curtis just couldn’t get out Monday at Mark Twain.

The Community R-6 freshman finished 2-for-2 with a team-high four RBI, reaching base three more times via walk, to lead the Lady Trojans to a 19-1 victory in five innings. The 19 runs is a season-high for Community this year as Brooklynn Glasgow drove in four runs thanks to two triples, matching the number of extra base hits Curtis had.

Sarah Angel scored three runs and drove one in despite going 1-for-3 with a double. Paige Painter pitched all five innings for Community, allowing an unearned run on two hits and three walks.

Curtis didn’t swing the bat for her first RBI in the first inning as Mark Twain walked in a run but then brought home three runners on a triple in a seven-run fourth inning that pushed the lead to 12-1.

The Lady Tigers walked in two more runners in the fifth inning before Glasgow picked up her second two-RBI triple for an 18-1 lead at the time.

Community (8-10) hosts Van-Far (4-9) on Thursday. To make up for the canceled Paris Tournament this past weekend, the Lady Trojans are scheduled to travel to Louisiana for a tournament on Saturday.

Trojans rally past Pilot Grove 5-4

Community R-6 had several hits before the fifth inning Monday but couldn’t string much together.

The Trojans had some doubles and Gavin Allen had a home run against Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove but were trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Four more hits later, and Community had its rally to eventually win 5-4 at home.

Shane Woodson and Allen started the fifth inning with hits before Ayden Meranda picked up the game-tying single and Mason Carroll and Brant Cope drove in runs to make it 5-3. After Allen had struck out 12 batters in six innings of four-hit, four-run ball (one earned), Carroll took over and struck out the side while not allowing a baserunner in the seventh inning. Allen finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and a solo home run.

Allen stole home in the first inning to score the game’s first run before Pilot Grove took a 2-1 lead in the middle of the third inning on an error and passed ball. Allen homered to lead off the third inning and tie the game at 2 as part of the Trojan’s five hits in the first four innings.

Community (2-2) played at conference foe New Franklin (11-0) before wrapping up its fall season Monday at home against Prairie Home (1-7).
