Emma remembered before Mexico loss to Kirksville

Posted

Emma Leigh Azdell would have been a senior this Mexico girls soccer season.

Since her premature passing in 2021, the Lady Bulldogs have remembered their late teammate through donations to her namesake scholarship fund and other methods and had her in their hearts during Monday's home game against North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville at Chris Hotop Field. Mexico lost 3-1.

Kirksville (5-7, 2-5 NCMC) scored its first two goals three minutes apart in the first half before Claire Hudson answered in the 29th minute. After trailing at halftime 2-1, Kirksville added another goal in the 65th minute, outshooting Mexico 16-9 along the way. Mexico (3-11-1, 1-6 NCMC) goalkeeper Katie Crews made eight saves.

Mexico plays at Eugene (4-10) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Look for a game recap on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, on the Mexico Ledger website and for a feature about the late Emma Azdell and how she is remembered today in the Wednesday, May 1, 2024, edition of the Mexico Ledger.
