Farber Fun Fest approaching on sesquicentennial

Posted

The Farber softball fields will be the scene for this year’s special edition of the annual Fun Fest that rolls through town yearly.

This year, Farber will celebrate two days of fun and frolic to commemorate the city’s 150th birthday – its sesquicentennial – after coming into existence in 1872.

Brenda Gower, a member of the planning committee and the fest’s secretary, noted the impact of this event for the community.

“It’s so people can have a good time and a lot of the stuff is free,” Gower said. “We have done it for quite a while. It’s our money-making project. It’s free to attend the tractor pull - but to participate costs a little fee. All of these things are for people to get together, be family-oriented and not spend a lot of money.”

Any money raised at the Fest goes toward projects in Farber such as repairs and refurbishing for areas in the city such as the library, ballfields and parks, and other aspects of what happens in Farber.

On Aug. 5, activities will take place starting at 6 p.m., and there will be an ice cream social, a Missouri Farm Pullers tractor pull, a lucky party for adults, and a Little Mr. and Miss contest with a crowning for the Princess and Queen to take place.

Contestants have been selling raffle tickets for the event.

The next day – Aug. 6 – events will run all day from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m., and there will be, a YMCA color run, a North American Refractories Corporation (NARCO) reunion, volleyball tournament, farmer's market, baby show, cornhole tournament, lucky for children, cake walk, pedal tractor pull and games for all ages.

Live music will be offered by Funkytonk and food trucks on site on the second evening.

In connection with the Farber’s Sesquicentennial Fun Fest, Farber post office will have a Special Cancellation Stamp only to be used on Aug. 6. This was specifically designed to commemorate Farber’s Sesquicentennial and a cancellation stamp is used to “cancel a stamp and is what you see stamped over a stamp on an envelope.”

“All of our mail in Farber goes through Laddonia – we have a post office in Farber,” Gower said. “So, this is kind of a big deal. If you want to have a hand-canceled stamp from Farber, you can get one on that day.”

This cancellation stamp will be used at the Farber post office from 10 a.m. until noon and 3-5 p.m. at the ball fields. Postcards can be purchased or bring paper, envelope and card stock to be canceled.

Items do not have to have postage to be canceled.

If unable to be at Farber on this day, send a letter to, U.S. Post Office Farber, Missouri, 63345.

The letter needs to include a prepaid envelope inside and paper, cardstock, etc. with instructions on what and how to cancel.
