Georgia B. Adams, age 101, of Longview, Texas, formerly of Mexico, died peacefully on Fri., Jan. 26, 2024, while visiting her daughter in Pensacola, Florida.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Fri., Feb. 2, at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico, with Rev. Glenn Forman officiating. Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Adams was born on May 16, 1922, in Amity, Mo., the daughter of David and Lena White Harwood. She graduated from Centralia High School, class of 1940, and from the University of Missouri in 1964. On Sept. 21, 1941, she married William J. Adams, in Bell Gardens, Calif., where they lived until he entered military service during WWII. When he returned from the military, they made their home in Mexico. Their church membership remained at Hopewell Baptist Church in Thompson. Bill preceded her in death on August 13, 1978.

Georgia was a high school teacher and counselor at Vandalia and Mexico, for many years, retiring in 1980. During the years after retirement, she enjoyed RV traveling and square dancing in the U.S., Canada and Mexico with longtime companion, Bob McCrann, who died in 1999. In winter months she was at home in Mesa, Ariz., but in summers she made her home near her children in Oklahoma and Texas where she volunteered in various community services. Georgia was an avid card-player and puzzle-worker and loved outdoor activities including yard work, gardening, and hiking.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, four sisters and one great granddaughter.

Survivors include one son and his wife, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
