GOLF ROUNDUP 04/17/2024: Van-Far, Mexico, Centralia golfers in top five of Centralia Invitational

Van-Far, Mexico and Centralia all had a presence high in the ranks of Monday’s Centralia Invitational.

Van-Far’s Pacey Reading won the tournament with a score of 74, which just edged out Mexico’s Aidan Knipfel and his 75. Carter Moss and Cullen Bennet each shot Centralia’s best score of 79, which was both good for fifth place.

Centralia did win the team competition with a score of 327, besting Clarence Cannon Conference foe Palmyra by three points. Van-Far was next at 343 and then Mexico in fourth at 347. Paris was seventh out of eight schools with a 399.

Travis Brooks and Brady Schultz had Centralia’s next best scores at 84 and 85, respectively; Nikos Connaway followed Reading with his 87 for Van-Far and Kasen Christian and Kalen Baskett had a 90 and a 92; and Houston Crow followed Knipfel with an 88 for Mexico and then it was Jacob Stephens with a 91 and Kaiden Doebelin with a 93.

Evin Reichmann had the best score for Paris at an 85 but just missed the top 10. Reid Ragsdale followed him with a 95.

Centralia fourth at Southern Boone tournament; North Callaway ninth

Out of a large field at Eagle Knoll, Centralia was among the best.

At the Southern Boone tournament last Wednesday, Centralia finished fourth out of 16 schools. Travis Brooks shot an 81 for Centralia’s best score in its overall mark of 347 and to finish 10th out of 74 golfers. North Callaway was ninth with a score of 387.

Cullen Bennett had Centralia’s next best individual score of 87 to be in 17th place, Carter Moss had an 88 to finish 20th, Brady Schultz had a 91 to be 24th, and Braden Gaughan shot a 94 to be 33rd.

Anthony Russell and Tyler Huddleston had North Callaway’s best score of 91 to be 26th and 27th, Vincent Houchins shot a 97 to be 39th, and Clayton Moore had a 108 to be 50th.

Van-Far finishes fifth in first 18-hole action of season

Van-Far hadn’t played an 18-hole competition yet this season but held its ground last Wednesday.

The Indians finished fifth at the Palmyra Invitational, with Pacey Reading leading the way with an 84. Nikos Connaway followed with an 87, Kasen Christian had a 92, Kaleb Baskett had a 93, and Clara Wallace shot a 101.

Missouri Military Academy wins Eugene quad

Missouri Military Academy won at a Eugene quad meet on Friday.

Gabriel Ontiveros led the Colonels with his score of 29, Gaston Gastelum and Carlos Ontiveros each followed with a 44, Cooper Johnston had a 45, and Joseph Roach shot a 50.

Paris wins division at Moberly Invitational

Paris was the best small school at the Moberly Invitational on April 9.

In the small-school division, Paris finished first and was led by Evin Reichmann’s second-place score of 81 and Cole Dowell’s sixth-place score of 90. Logan Mitchell had a 100, and Reid Ragsdale shot a 101.

This performance followed Paris’ sixth-place score of 146 in the scramble tournament at New Bloomfield, putting golfers in pairs. Reichmann and Mitchell had the team’s best score of 72. Centralia finished just ahead of Paris with a 145, led by the 68 by Cullen Bennett and Carter Moss.
