Bowen sisters highlight four golds for Mexico girls in Chillicothe

The Bowen sisters haven’t wrestled at the same time for Mexico much.

Katie and Abby were both in the Mexico girls’ lineup on Saturday at the Chillicothe tournament and each of them finished first in their respective weight classes to make them the first gold-medal sisters in program history. Karisa Hayden and Alexus Johns each finished first, Matty Tolbert was second at 235 pounds and Alyssa Knight finished third at 130 to help the Lady Bulldogs finish third out of 10 teams with 49 points.

Katie Bowen had two first-period pinfalls in 115-pound competition for a perfect day while Abby Bowen pinned both of her opponents in the second period at 135. Johns wrestled one match against teammate Tolbert that ended in a first-period pinfall at 235 before a medical forfeit ended the rematch, and Hayden won by major decision and pinfall at 190.

Knight won one of her three matches at 130, being victorious via an 11-3 major decision and losing once by an 8-5 decision and pinfall.

Mexico returns to host the Brick City Girls Classic Tournament at 9 a.m. Monday.
