The Centralia girls will try to repeat as champions while the boys will go for a championship afterward.
After winning the Harrisburg tournament a season ago, the Lady Panthers are back in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday against Fayette as each go in with 13-3 records, and the Panthers defeated rival Hallsville 71-70 on Thursday to advance to Saturday’s 7:30 boys championship game against Blair Oaks (8-7). This will be the second title the Lady Panthers are defending this season as they successfully defended their Centralia Invitational championship.
The Lady Panthers defeated Blair Oaks 56-46 in the semifinals on Wednesday, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory after leading 21-18 at halftime. Braylin Brunkhorst led with 16 points, Morgan Ross followed with 13 points, Raegan Anderson had 11 points and Shelby Lewis added 10 points.
On Monday, Centralia defeated Marshall 63-21 in the first round and was led by Brunkhorst’s 16 points. Ryenn Gordon followed with 15 points, and Ross had nine points.
The Panthers defeated Linn 79-63 on Tuesday and then rival Hallsville 71-70 after trailing after each of the first three quarters, including 53-49 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ethan Ross and Cullen Bennett each led Centralia against Hallsville with 13 points, Elliott McCoy followed with 11 points, and Logan Rosenfelder had 10 points.
