Lady Trojans take third in Paris tournament, Lady Coyotes fall short of third

Community R-6 was able to rely on its pitching all Saturday at the Paris Tournament. The Class 1 No. 9 Lady Trojans defeated South Shelby 6-0, lost 3-1 to Class 1 No. 8 and reigning state champion Canton and defeated Paris 4-2, clinching head coach Kendra Murphy's most wins in a single season. The Lady Coyotes bested North Shelby 2-1 in 11 innings, and then lost 12-1 to Salisbury and 4-2 to Community.

For Community, Paige Painter in two games against South Shelby and Paris pitched 12 innings with nine strikeouts, seven hits, two unearned runs and two walks and Jocelyn Curtis in two games pitched against Canton and Paris had eight innings with four hits, three earned runs, two strikeouts and one walk. Painter had one of three two-out RBI in the victory against Paris along with Brooklynn Glasgow and Chloe Johnson.

Kennedy Ashenfelter pitched 15 innings on Saturday for Paris, coming up with the game-winning hit as well as a game-saving tag out at home against North Shelby. She went four innings with four hits, two earned runs, two strikeouts and one walk against the Lady Trojans and then Reese Sutton tossed two innings with one unearned run allowed. Sutton had a RBI against Community, and Sophia Crusha was 2-for-4.
