Posted

The second half was different for each Community R-6 basketball team on Monday night. In a week each team has four games, the Lady Trojans had a good start with a 47-33 win over Bunceton/Prairie Home while the Trojans lost to district foe BPH 67-53. The girls outscored BPH 16-8 in the fourth quarter to run away with a game they led 24-19 at halftime, and the boys were outscored 21-11 in the third quarter after only trailing 30-24 after one half.

The Lady Trojans (12-7) had to get around with BPH's interior defense that recorded a handful of blocks in the first quarter and double-digit rejections in the game. Kylie Brooks and her teammates were able to score in transition several times and tighten the defense to allow BPH (7-11) only 19 points in the final three quarters after 14 in the first quarter.

Brooks finished with a game-high 22 points (8-for-12 on free throws), 12 rebounds, seven steals and four blocks, Alyssa Beamer had nine points (4-for-6 on free throws), Brooklynn Glasgow finished with eight points (4-for-7 on free throws) and seven rebounds, and Aaliyah Welch had eight points (4-for-5 on free throws), six rebounds and four steals. Addison Ray led BPH with 13 points.

The Lady Trojans (3-1 CAC) hosts Central Activities Conference rival Cairo (13-5, (2-0 CAC) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Trojans (3-15) hadn't been taking care of the ball during an eight-game losing streak that grew to nine after their second loss of the season to BPH (the first was 74-40). Their offense was smoother as there were three different instances in the first half they took the lead on a 3-pointer set up by a good pass. BPH (12-6) shot well from the perimeter as well, finishing with eight 3-pointers that were split evenly between Jackson Pitts and Wyatt Case.

Mason Carroll led the Trojans with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Cooper Rohan finished with a season-high 16 points and four 3-pointers, and Caden Thomas had nine points and four assists. Pitts had a game-high 27 points, Case followed with 19 points, and Layne Brandes added 16 points.

The Trojans (1-3 CAC) host conference rival Cairo (7-9, 2-0 CAC) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
