Ladybirds hold off EMO foe Elsberry 54-49 in OT

The North Callaway girls made the plays when it counted on Thursday night at home. After going to overtime for the second time in four games, the Ladybirds won their second overtime game of the season and fifth straight 54-49 after outscoring Eastern Missouri Conference foe Elsberry 12-7 in the extra four-minute period. 

North Callaway (15-7, 5-2 EMO) made 10-of-12 free throws in overtime and 14-for-18 from the line in the game. The Ladybirds outrebounded Elsberry 29-20 (11-6 on the offensive glass) and held the Lady Indians (13-7, 4-2 EMO) to three rebounds in overtime.

Abrielle Burgher led North Callaway in scoring with 12 points, making it the third time in four games she has done so, and also finished with five assists and four steals. Lakyn Hartley matched her 12 points, had nine rebounds (seven offensive) and made 4-of-6 free throws in overtime, Natalie Shryock had 11 points, three blocks and was 4-for-4 from the line in overtime, and Riley Blevins added nine points, five assists, three steals and two blocks to go with two overtime free throws.

Mya Pflasterer led Elsberry with 25 points, and Grace White followed with 13 points.

North Callaway hosts conference foe Wright City (6-12, 0-5 EMO) at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

North Callaway fifth- and sixth-grade girls played some minutes at halftime of both the junior varsity and varsity games. Fifth- and sixth-grade boys will do the same tomorrow night when the Thunderbirds host Elsberry.
