Mexico breaks five-game losing streak to Fulton, wins 4-3

Mexico pushed itself past the finish line against Fulton on Thursday.

Kaden Benne pushed a bunt to the pitcher in the sixth inning to force home the winning run and give Mexico a 4-3 victory over its North Central Missouri Conference rival at home. The Bulldogs (6-6, 2-2 NCMC) break their five-game losing streak to Fulton (6-3, 2-1 NCMC), who they have lost seven of the previous eight against.

Benne played third base against Fulton at home since Sam Ryan pitched all seven innings with four hits, three strikeouts, two walks and no earned runs. He singled to lead off a two-run fifth inning that tied the game, scoring on a RBI single by Ashton Belcher.

Drew DeMint finished 2-for-2 with a run, stolen base and a walk, Brady Fox went 2-for-3, and Austin Maxwell scored a run and walked once. Mexico outhit Fulton 7-4.

Mexico hosts Oak Grove (4-2) at noon on Saturday.

North Callaway stays perfect in EMO with 18-3 rout of Wellsville-Middletown

Kyle Pennell stayed hot, and North Callaway stayed perfect on Thursday.

The Thunderbirds defeated Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wellsville-Middletown 18-3 in three innings to move their conference record to 3-0. Pennell finished 3-for-3 with four RBI, four runs and three stolen bases to improve North Callaway to 4-3 overall.

North Callaway had eight hits but took advantage of 13 walks issued by Wellsville (0-5, 0-3 EMO) pitchers and six errors committed by the Tigers.

Paul Russell earned his first varsity win with three innings of seven strikeouts, five hits, three earned runs and one walk. Carter Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a double.

North Callaway plays two games on Saturday in Hughesville, facing Wellington Napoleon (4-3) at noon and the host Northwest (6-5) at around 2 p.m.

Moberly 3 Mexico 0 at Chris Hotop Field in Mexico

The Lady Bulldogs are shut out in second straight game against North Central Missouri Conference opponent and fall to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in conference. Moberly rises to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in conference. Mexico plays at Class 3 Warrenton (1-6) at 5 p.m. Monday.

Marshall 6 Mexico 3 in Marshall

The Bulldogs fall to 1-1 in North Central Missouri Conference matches after going 1-2 in doubles and 2-6 in singles. Brendan McKeown won singles 10-4, Trevor Wright won singles 10-4, and the pairs of Brixton Goerne and Carter Blackburn won doubles 10-8. Boston Davolt and Blackburn each lost singles matches 10-8, and Wright and Jonathan St. Martin lost doubles 11-10. Mexico hosts the Mexico Varsity Invitational Tournament on Friday
