Community R-6 rattles off 17 hits, wins 15-6 at New Haven

The hits kept coming for Community R-6 on Monday.

The Trojans tallied 17 hits in a 15-6 victory at New Haven, having six finished with multiple hits and three record multiple RBI.

Mason Rohan finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and had three of Community's nine doubles, Brant Cope was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double, and Mason Carroll was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles. Eli Johnson went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a double, Caden Thomas finished 3-for-4 with four runs, a RBI and a double, and Drake Welch went 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Community (6-3) had its biggest inning in the first against New Haven (2-6) with six runs to support Mason Rohan, who had seven strikeouts and two unearned runs on one hit in four innings.

Community (1-0 CAC) plays at Central Activities Conference foe Sturgeon (5-3, 1-1 CAC) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Van-Far loses 19-14 shootout against Marion County

Van-Far certainly scored at a good clip but had trouble limiting Marion County on Monday.

The Indians scored 14 runs on nine hits but lost 19-14 at home to Marion County. Van-Far allowed four unearned runs on five errors but also allowed 15 hits.

Van-Far (4-5) had its biggest lead after the fourth inning, using a seven-run frame to take a 11-4 lead. However, Marion County (6-2) responded with nine runs in the fifth inning to take a 13-11 lead. Six of Marion County's 11 walks were drawn in that fifth inning.

The Indians made Marion County pay for a couple hit by pitches in the fourth inning. Malik and Tyson Douglas each had a RBI along with Garrett Hopke. Tyson Douglas finished with two RBI, Carson Huff went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Gibson Condie was 2-for-4 with three runs and a triple.

Van-Far (2-1 EMO) has a quick turnaround with a 5 p.m. home game tonight against Eastern Missouri Conference foe Elsberry (4-5, 2-0 EMO).

Track and field

Ford break school javelin record at Thunderbird Invitational

Carter Ford was one of many personal-best marks set by Mexico on Monday in Kingdom City.

Mexico competed in the North Callaway Thunderbird Invite, with Ford setting a new school record in the boys javelin with a fourth-place throw of 39.6 meters. Alexandra Terry won the girls pole vault with a mark of 2.59 meters and the boys 4x400 relay team of Taye Potter, Tyler Grimes, Davontae Frame and Titus Grubb won its event.

Finishing second was Jacob Quinlan in the boys triple jump, Eli Arnold in the boys discus, Andrew Peuster in the boys 1600, Emma Seibert in the girls 300-meter hurdles, Grimes in the boys 800, the boys 4x200 relay team of Charlie Fisher, Frame, Alex Rowan and Potter, and the boys 4x100 relay team of Fisher, Rowa, Potter and Grimes.

Taking third were Fisher in the boys long jump, Tucker Hutchinson in the boys shotput, Peyton Hoover in the boys 110-meter hurdles, Brady McCoy in  the boys 3200 and the girls 4x200 relay team of Alexis Smythe, Ella Raines, Terry and Seibert.

North Callaway wins events at home meet

North Callaway won some events on its home turf.

The Thunderbirds and Ladybirds collected several first-places at the North Callaway Thunderbird Invite. Alexandra Craighead won the girls 300-meter hurdles, Kymorie Myers won the girls discus, Bailey Hill won the girls shotput, Cade Miller won the boys 100, and Isiah Craighead won the boys javelin.

Finishing second was Madyson Gordon in the girls pole vault, Austin Brown in the boys 100 and John Higgins in the boys 200.

Taking third were Pressley Schmauch in the girls 3200, Alexandra Craighead in the girls 100 hurdles, the girls 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams, Lia Bondurant in the girls high jump, Violet Martin in the girls discus and the boys 4x400 relay team.

Jones, Engh-Hoffman win for Van-Far at North Callaway

The Van-Far girls had a couple of victories on Monday.

Kenya Jones in the 200-meter dash, and McKenna Engh-Hoffman in the 100-meter hurdles won for the Lady Indians at the North Callaway Thunderbird Invite. 

Isaac Wardlow was second in the boys 400 as was Evan Utterback in the boys shotput.

Taking third were Engh-Hoffman in the girls javelin, Colt Williams in the boys 100 and Jackson Fischer in the boys discus.

Community R-6 records several top-3 finishes at North Callaway

Community R-6 was in the mix in events on Monday.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans finished in the top-3 in several events at the North Callaway Thunderbird Invite. 

Lydia Hoyt finished second in the girls 200 for the team's best finish.

Taking third were Hoyt in the girls 100, Chloe Johnson in the girls 200, Kat Meyer in the girls 400 and Mark Zelle in the boys 100.

Ross wins for Centralia at South Shelby Invitational

Ethan Ross shined on Monday for Centralia at South Shelby.

Ross won the boys long jump at the South Shelby Invitational and was second in the boys 100 and 400.

Missouri Military Academy relay team takes third at South Shelby

The Missouri Military Academy 4x200 relay team finished third for the school's best finish on Monday at the South Shelby Invitational.

Boys tennis

Mexico defeats district foe St. Charles West 7-2

The Mexico boys earned their second win over a district foe this season.

The Bulldogs won 7-2 at St. Charles West (0-5), winning five singles matches and two doubles matches. 

Brendan McKeown and Brixton Goerne each won singles 8-0, Boston Davolt won 8-1, Trevor Wright won 8-5 and Carter Blackburn won 8-2. 

McKeown and Davolt won doubles 8-1, and Goerne and Blackburn won 8-3.

Mexico (3-4) hosts Boonville (1-3) at 4 p.m. tonight.

Missouri Military Academy Kirksville 4 in Kirksville. MMA improves record to 4-0 and plays at Battle (1-4) at 4:30 p.m. tonight.

Girls soccer

Mexico girls tie Warrenton 2-2

The Mexico girls had lost four straight going into Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs didn't lose at Warrenton but fought to a 2-2 tie. Emily Moppin and Claire Hudson scored their goals while goalkeeper Kaili Cox made crucial saves to put Mexico's record at 2-7-1 and Warrenton's at 1-6-1.

Mexico (0-3 NCMC) has a makeup North Central Missouri Conference game at 5 p.m. tonight against Hannibal (7-1-1, 4-0 NCMC).
