On July 2 at approximately 4:01 p.m., the Little Dixie Fire Protection District was dispatched to a natural cover fire just south of the Mexico city limits for a natural cover fire. On July 2 at approximately 11 p.m., the Little Dixie Fire Protection District was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 14000 block of Highway JJ. Upon arrival found a single story residential structure with heavy fire on the north side of the structure and in the north interior. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and get it extinguished. Little Dixie responded with two engines, two tankers, a rescue truck and 21 personnel. Estimated damage was between $25,000 and $30,000. Investigation found the cause of the fire was discarded fireworks placed in the trash near the north exterior of the structure.
The Little Dixie Fire Protection District would like to remind citizens to put water on the discarded fireworks before placing them in the trash. We would also remind citizens to exercise caution when shooting fireworks and to have a water supply such as a garden hose available in the event that they start a fire especially since it is still very dry.
