A Mexico man turned himself in late Saturday night following a car crash that led to him fleeing the scene while leaving his 14-year-old daughter behind.
According to Mexico Public Safety Department officials, Joe F. Hultz Jr, 44, was processed at MPDSD and was taken to the Audrain County Jail for careless and imprudent driving, resisting arrest, stop/detention, driving while revoked, leaving the scene of a crash in the first degree, endangering welfare of a child in the second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both Hultz and his daughter were uninjured.
At approximately 9:13 p.m. Saturday, the MPSD received a report of a maroon, 2018 Dodge Charger being driven in a careless and imprudent manner.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it in the 500 block of North Washington Street. The driver, Hultz, refused to stop and drove about four blocks before crashing into the side of some self-storage units located at North Clark and Allison Streets.
Hultz then allegedly ran from the scene, leaving his 14-year-old daughter at the crash site. The juvenile complained of some pain but had no visible injuries. She was later released to her mother.
Residents are reminded that people arrested and charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
